Thanks for the comment, Holly – we agree! Lowellville is providing a great example for all river communities. Kudos to your community for being first along the Mahoning to take the plunge!

Thanks for the comment, Don! The preliminary study conducted by GPD Group (found in the Resources tab) proposed a few riffle creation opportunities on the lower portion of the Mahoning – see the last three pages of the report. We are further evaluating these and other locations as part of the plan, and will certainly take your suggestions into consideration.

We’ve been trying to clean up our river since I was young! I can’t wait till it’s complete. People are already kayaking.

In conjunction with the removals, there’s an opportunity for your organization to help spur more interest in kayaking, canoeing and spectator activity on the river.

I’m suggesting that white-water areas be developed in the downtown areas of Warren and Youngstown.

Those areas and the activities and events that they would create could generate much interest in those downtowns…see Kent and Cuyahoga Falls. Pedestrian walkways and spectators could be envisioned.

Local organizations like the Friends of the Mahoning River, The Mahoning River Paddling, Restoration Group, and Trumbull Canoe Trails have expressed interest in seeing the development of such sites.

Please consider these ideas….
