The Appalachian Community Grant Program is funding this next planning phase. We will be expanding on the recommendations generated in the Mahoning Corridor Revitalization Plan with a focus on trail planning and downtown revitalization in communities that lie along the river. However, we cannot complete this process alone. You can get involved in the next phase of planning by completing a quick survey! What would YOU like to see in communities along the river? Click on the “Community Survey” tab to take the survey or complete the form in the “Contact Us” tab to ask us any questions you have!

Make your voice heard!

The Mahoning River Corridor Revitalization Plan includes analysis of how potential dam removals would impact Mahoning River water levels and the surrounding land. The analysis relative to the Leavittsburg Dam is now available for public input. The dam is owned by Trumbull County MetroParks, who will be reviewing public comments prior to making a final determination on whether to remove the dam.

More information, including how to submit your feedback, is available on the Trumbull County MetroParks website. The deadline to submit your comments is Febuary 19th at 2pm.

The Mahoning River Corridor Revitalization Plan officially kicked off at the first Steering Committee meeting on Friday, June 26th. Members of the Steering Committee, comprised of mayors and trustees from each of the 13 involved communities, attended the outdoor presentation at the Warren Amphitheater. After the presentation, Steering Committee members participated in an outdoor visioning activity. In the image above, Mayor Tito Brown explains an idea for the riverfront in downtown Youngstown. The meeting was a huge success – especially in the time of COVID-19. Materials from the meeting can be found on the website’s resources tab, and news coverage of the event can be found here.
